Nature Based Solutions for Manganese Compliance
Ready to Eliminate Chemical and Pumping Costs?
Manganese (Mn) is a common contaminant in tailings and waste rock storage facilities and is not removed in conventional mine water treatment systems. Manganese is expensive to treat requiring high pH or hazardous oxidants.
Hedin Environmental is a worldwide leader in the passive treatment of Mn. Our nature based solutions remove Mn at pH 7 without any added chemicals and achieve Mn compliance down to 0.1 mg/L.
But won’t a passive treatment system be too large for my site?
Hedin Environmental has spent decades advancing passive Mn treatment to be as compact as possible. For example, our technology required only 500 square meters of area to treat 100 m3/hr from 10 mg/L Mn to 1 mg/L Mn. If enough area is available, we are confident our passive technology is the least expensive solution to Mn compliance.
How often does a passive treatment system require maintenance?
Our systems can meet water quality standards with minimal operational expense. In the example below, our passive treatment system achieved 0.3 mg/L Mn compliance for 9 years with no maintenance. While more aggressively sized systems may require more frequent maintenance, this work can be conducted inexpensively and with standard construction equipment.
