TWO MILE

In 2007, Hedin Environmental delivered to Trout Unlimited, a comprehensive restoration plan for the Twomile Run Watershed. The investigation followed up on the 2005 Huling Branch study which identified reclemation and remining as a least-cost remediationoption for the Huling watershed. The Twomile study included sampling that determined that a substantial portion of the AMD pollution occurred as base flow to streams. A conventional treatment approach would not be effective. HE undertook an extensive study of spoil characterisitcs, deep mines, and coal reserves and developed several remining and reclamation alternative for the Twomile watershed.

The plan also includes passive treatment recommendations for the Swamp area. This area had been previously reclaimed and treatment of the residual AMD will result in considerable stream recovery. The report recommendations were incorporated in Growing Greener grant requests submitted by TU in 2007.
