K & J - Pond 4

This treatment system treats discharges to Rock Run. The mine water flows into two vertical flow limestone ponds that are followed by a settling pond.

The vertical flow limestone beds contain a total of 6,000 tons of limestone and are equipped with separate plumbing systems that are used to flush solids from the limestone.

The flushing systems discharge to an independent flushing pond that retain these solids. A 7,000-ton oxic limestone bed follows the settling pond. The purpose of this bed is to remove manganese and add alkalinity.
