K & J - Pond 23

This treatment system treats a discharge to Chest Creek. The mine water flows into two vertical flow limestone ponds that are followed by a settling pond. The vertical flow limestone beds contain a total of 1,200 tons of limestone and are equipped with separate plumbing systems that are used to flush solids from the limestone. The flushing systems discharge to an independent flushing pond retain these solids.
